Steven Avalos


Steven Avalos joined the Chico & Nunes, P.C. team in August of 2009. He concentrates his practice on land use and real estate, general litigation, commercial transactions and finance. Mr. Avalos works in connection with issues relevant  to the regulation of land and its development. His experience includes assisting with matters involving the uniform commercial code, personal guarantees, and foreclosures.

From 2008-2009, Mr. Avalos served as President of the Latino Law Student Association (LLSA) at the University of Illinois College of Law, during which time he led an effort to establish an endowment for future Latino law students. Previously, Mr. Avalos worked in the Chambers of Justice Sue E. Myerscough, Illinois Appellate Court, Fourth District. Mr. Avalos has worked as a political consultant, winning nine of eleven targeted races across the country, and as a union organizer, helping to organize a union at a mental health facility in Rolling Meadows, IL. Mr. Avalos is fluent in Spanish

Representative Transactions:
        

  • Advised client on collateralizing LLC membership interest under the UCC.
  • Assisted client in obtaining its liquor license in the City of Chicago.
  • Advocated on behalf of a client to maintain its certification as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE).
  • Assisted client in removing a UCC Article 9 lien from its record.
  • Advised client on meeting its reporting requirements under Illinois law, in a bulk sale of assets.
